The two cottages are
across the lane from our home, and have been sympathetically restored to
retain many of their original features, the oak beamed ceiling and large
fireplaces can be seen in the kitchen/salon/diner. there is a sofa bed
in here should it be needed.
The large first floor
bedroom has French doors that open onto a view of the duck pond, meadows
and woods. The shared solar heated pool is to the side of the cottages
in the large garden with stunning views of the landscape. Seasonal fruit
and vegetables are available, as well as eggs from our free range hens.
We also have a selection of pushbikes should you wish to use them. All
linen and towel are provided except pool towels.
We are surrounded by
woods and meadows with excellent tracks for cycling, walking and
wildlife watching, you may get a chance to see the black redstarts,
hoopoe, red kites, red squirrels and deer that spend some time here. A
short walk down the lane is a spring fed lake, ideal for swimming and
fishing. Villamblard is 3km with a good selection of independent shops,
butchers, bakers, grocers, hairdressers, bars, bank and post office,
there is also a working distillery and shop, a weekly market, a ruin of
an ancient chateaux and tennis courts for hire.
There are several bars
and restaurants in the surrounding villages (some English speaking),
many of these villages have weekly markets and some hold marche
nocturnes, for these evening markets, the village closes it's roads to
traffic, sets up tables and chairs alongside stalls selling a selection
of food and wines to the residents and vistors to enjoy an evening
dining alfresco.
The principal market
towns of Bergerac and Perigueux are 25km to the South and North, both
are on lovely winding rivers where canoeing and boat trips are popular.
Pavement cafes, bars restaurants and shops cater for all tastes.
Bergerac is famous for
it's wines, and many of the chateaux and vineyards are open to the
public for tours and tastings (degustation), a chance for you to try the
unique monbazillac and Pecharment wines.
Further to the East
along the Dordogne valley, you can visit the caves and paintings from
prehistoric times, that have given the region the name 'The cradle of
mankind in Euro! pe'. The area boasts an abundance of historic and
picturesque towns and villages. |
