"La Pâquerette" near Hesdin Sleeps 6/8 (Wheelchair friendly).

In the “7 Vallées” region, a favourite country holiday area for the French themselves as well as Belgian and Dutch holidaymakers, this is one of the two luxurious cottages created in the former stable buildings of a typical regional "fermette"  The surrounding area with its pretty wooded valleys, trout streams, and sleepy villages is just 1 hour from Calais, and just 40 minutes from the endless beaches of the Cote d'Opale.

La Paquerette's light, spacious interior offers 3 bedrooms:  1 wheelchair-accessible double on the ground floor and 2 large twin rooms on the upper floor (1 with additional convertible double).  Two bathrooms, 2 separate WCs (1 of each adapted for disabled users), kitchen/diner and spacious living room, laundry, terrace, garden, parking.

Local shopping facilities include the market towns of Fruges (3mins) and  Hesdin (10 mins), where The Wine Society has its French retail outlet.  For more serious shoppers St. Omer with its Auchan and Carrefour hypermarchés, stylish boutiques, art and furniture galleries is only 25 minutes drive.  Antique lovers will find a treasure trove in Montreuil (25 mins) including  a weekly auction sale, while fashion junkies should make a bee-line for Le Touquet (45 mins) with its branches of Paris boutiques, smart cocktail bars and casinos.

History fans will not want to miss the battlefields of Azincourt (3 mins) and Crecy (30 mins).  Azincourt, where, in 1415, the army of Henry V won the most famous victory in English history, has a fine new museum dedicated to the battle.  Elsewhere, in particular close to Arras, Albert and Bapaume (about 1 hr) there are some moving Great War 1914-18 battlefield monuments and cemeteries.  An outing to the monuments and preserved trench lines at Beaumont Hamel, Vimy, Thiepval and Ypres is particularly recommended, especially if your visit is around the time of Armistice Day (November 11).  Everywhere, historical sites and fine chateaux abound.

Horse riding, tennis, swimming, windsurfing, sand yachting and fishing all available at a number of centres within 40 minutes drive.  Walkers and cyclists will find wide variety of signposted itineraries and you can even try a walk in the country with a donkey for company.

If you play golf you will love the choice of a dozen or so top quality courses within an hour's comfortable drive.
