COTTAGE

This charming 18th century stone cottage is ideally situated nestled in the heart of the Charente, the second sunniest region of France. The cottage has been immaculately restored to a very high standard retaining a wealth of original features. 

THE REGION:

Le Mars is a tranquil setting in the unspoilt countryside which reveals fields of sunflowers and corn. Weekly markets selling local produce abound in the region, it is possible to visit a different one each day. The cottage is within easy reach of the market towns of Sauze-Vaussais and Chaunay with a host of shops, supermarkets, banks,  boulangeries, and restaurants. There is also a boulangerie van which delivers fresh baguettes and croissants to your doorstep. The countryside is ideal for walking or cycling along the many country lanes and pathways, the only disturbance being the wildlife. For the more adventurous there is horse riding, canoeing, boat trips, fishing and excellent golf courses all within an easy drive.

ACCOMMODATION:

The cottage comprises of a very large kitchen/diner with original flagstone floors and fireplace,   fully equipped with all the essentials.

The living room has a beamed ceiling, stone fireplace with woodburning stove and the usual comfy sofas, one which converts to make a double bed. The bathroom has a large tiled shower, washbasin and toilet. Included is a supply of soap, towels and the ever popular hair dryer. Stairs from the ground floor lead up to a seated landing area filled with books, magazines and local information for your enjoyment.

Bedroom 1-A large family room with two single beds and a comfortable futon. Bedroom 2-A large double room with double bed. Both are full of character and charm with original oak beams, fully furnished and provided with all linen. A cot and baby facilities are also available.

 OUTSIDE:

The cottage is set in a private enclosed garden, south facing with views across the fields. Provided for your use is a BBQ, garden furniture, childrens toys and a paddling pool.

POOL:

There is also use of the owners octagonal 5M pool, surrounded by attractive decking and a sunbathing area. 

OTHERS FACILITIES OFFERED:

Bike hire is available at 10 euros per bike (adult bikes only)

A babysitting service is offered by a qualified childcare assistant (references available) for two evenings per week, allowing families to have a quiet meal out without the children.  

AREA AND ACTIVITIES:

Places to visit ... too many to mention all, but here's a few favorites ... The famous 'vally of the monkeys', Zoorama De La Foret, Futuroscope,  Mairais Poitevin (the green venice), Remy Martin, Henessay, Martell (famous cognac houses), the seaside towns of La Rochalle and Royan, an abundance of churches, cathedrals,  ancient abbeys, museums, galleries, chateaux and castles. There are also many larger towns for those shopaholics, Poitiers, Angouleme, Niort, Cognac and Limoges, all within easy reach by car.
