Matisse has been carefully
converted and restored from the original cognac chai storage area,
giving a total living area in excess of 100m2. It features extensive
exposed stone walls (‘pierre apparant’) and old and new wooden beams. A
particular feature is the double height living area, giving a very light
and airy feel.
The ground floor consists of an
open plan living/dining/kitchen area, with a separate shower/WC room
with heated towel rail. There is also a downstairs bedroom with a double
bed and single bed with roll-away bed underneath (both with full size
mattresses). This allows Matisse to be used as a 1 bedroom property if
required.
The first floor has two bedrooms, a
double and a twin, thus Matisse can be configured for 2 or 3 bedroom
usage.
The Kitchen is fully equipped with
gas cooker and hob, 60/40 fridge freezer, microwave, dishwasher, toaster
and all the facilities one would expect. Washing machines are located in
the Games Barn.
The lounge area has satellite
television, DVD, Hi-Fi and two clic-clac sofas (that can be used as sofa
beds if required). There are plenty of books and games.
The dining area can comfortably
seat up to 10 people.
Outside there is a covered
(mandatory in the summer heat) verandah overlooking the pool with a
range of seating and tables, including a BBQ.
Monet has been carefully converted

in excess of 100m2. It features extensive exposed stone walls (‘pierre
apparant’) particularly upstairs and old and new wooden beams.
Downstairs is predominantly dry-lined and decorated in ‘modern
farmhouse’ style.

A particular feature of the room is the glazed pigeonaire. The double
has a double bed and the twin room has two single beds that can be
converted to bunk beds if required.
All bedrooms have plenty of storage
space.

Fishing is the big thing here at Le
Moulin de Malineau. Most of our guests have fished, either as complete
novices or more generally as experienced anglers.
The lake is approximately 1800m2 in
size, so whilst not huge is sufficiently large to give ample opportunity
for two or three people to fish at the same time and sufficiently small
to allow the less experienced not to be embarrassed.
We are fully stocked with Mirror
Carp.
Our experienced guests have
estimated there to be well over 100 fish in the lake and that they are
extremely healthy. They have seen this year’s fry and last year’s, so
they are breeding well.
There are some large fish, up to
10-12lbs and many smaller. So, like the lake, not massive but they are
big enough to be sporting. As one of our guests commented it’s nice to
know that you can just pop out for half an hour before a relaxed dinner
and be reasonably certain of catching a fish.
Historically, they have been quite
tame, eating sweet corn and bread that we’ve thrown in, as well as many
other things - they appear to have a penchant for peanut butter
sandwiches! However, now they have been fished for a couple of years
they are a bit more wary, the larger, older fish in particular.
We do have some equipment here, so
if you want to have a go with your son or daughter then feel free. If
you’re more serious, you had better bring your own tackle.
On what we term ‘the top field’ a
little way from the lake, we have our 9 hole Putt and Putt course.
Each hole is over 20 yards long,
but lend themselves to putting rather than pitching.
The holes are strategically placed to minimise lost
balls.
It’s important to recognise that
the course is for fun, and not to be taken seriously. The nature of the
grass (and weeds) and the impromptu building of bunkers by the residents
moles are such that accuracy is luck rather than judgement. Albeit that
our current course record holder with a score of 22 would disagree!
We have four new putters and a
variety of golf balls. Contributions for lost balls are gratefully
accepted and each gite comes armed with scoresheets. For the serious
golfer there are courses nearby in Montendre, Angouleme and Saintes.
Le Moulin de Malineau is within
easy reach of a variety of attractions and facilities catering for a
broad selection of tastes. From historic Chateaux and churches to
beaches, water parks, zoos and vineyards.
There are many special events
locally during the summer and the ever popular night markets.
We'll let one of our visitirs
sign-off: “ Silence punctuated by birdsong, this
place is as beautiful as the orioles. To be able to relax and chill out
at the end of the day is the key. Here you can.” |
