market town, 30 mins from La Rochelle and Rochefort airports and
magnificent beaches and islands. Ryanair fly from Stanstead and 2005
offers Southampton and Birmingham airports to La Rochelle with excellent
value flights. Or you can easily drive down from St Malo (approx 3 hrs),
Caen or Cherbourgh/Le Havre (4-5 hrs) ferry ports.
The house consists of 3/4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a delightful beamed
salon with open stone fireplace, satellite TV, video, CD, tape, radio,
video library, books and games. The beamed kitchen has dining table and
chairs, and is particularly well equipped with oven, hob, dishwasher,
microwave and fridge. French doors from these rooms open onto the front
courtyard/parking area. Separate laundry room houses an additional
fridge with freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer and ironing
facilities.
There is an additional reading room with sofa and armchair. The
ground floor day room/4th bedroom with sofa bed, overlooks the swimming
pool, barbecue and floodlit garden with its palms, olive and banana
trees. There is also a shower room and wc on the ground floor. On the
first floor is a bathroom with twin basins, bath and hand-held shower
and separate wc, three double bedrooms (2 doubles, 1 twin). A cot and
highchair can also be supplied on request.
Outside is the 10m x 5m swimming pool with steps and Roman end, front
courtyard and parking area. We have installed pool safety fencing with
Protect-a-child safety gate to comply with French legislation. There is
a walled garden with lawn and a covered verandah with barbecue for al
fresco dining.
Nearby and within walking distance is the lovely town of Surgeres
with its mediaeval chateau walls, river walks, parkland, shops, cafes,
bars, superb restaurants, cinema, sporting facilities and wonderful
indoor/outdoor markets. It is the perfect base for spending lazy days
around the pool and soaking up the local atmosphere, food and wine
without having to drive.
Beautiful countryside is on your doorstep, and magnificent beaches
and historic towns and villages are not far away. The chic and colourful
ancient port and town of La Rochelle, the beautiful Ile de Re, Ile
d'Oleron and Royan, Roman town of Saintes and delights of Cognac are all
within easy reach as is Poitiers, home to Futuroscope (France's second
most popular attraction after Disneyland), and the delightful canals of
the 'Green Venice' where you can take a leisurely boat trip in the
Marais Poitevin.
