Our lovely cottage benefits from being in the 2nd sunniest part of
France! It has an enclosed garden & all modern amenities, and is
centrally located between the beaches, the chateaux of the Loire, and
many other attractions, outlined below. It is also ideal walking and
cycling country.
The cottage has many original features including wooden floors, open
fireplace, shuttered windows overlooking the sleepy hamlet, and the
sunny garden is surrounded by hedges so it is completely private.
There are 2 large bedrooms, 1 with a double bed, 1 with twin beds,
and a double sofa bed in the lounge. The lounge has a wooden floor,
fireplace TV, CD/tape/radio, and leads through French doors into the
kitchen. This looks out onto the garden lawn through the back door and
shuttered windows. The toilet is separate from the bathroom which has a
bath and shower, bidet and sink unit. There is oil central heating for
the winter months.
The cottage is very light and the garden is safe for children as it
is totally enclosed and they can use the large underground "cave" as a
den/playroom.
There are several local restaurants, a bakery and large "Super U"
supermarket within 1 mile, as well as a public swimming pool and tennis
courts. A walk into into the village takes around 15 mintues but is
great for having a look at all the different traditional houses.
Although the many beaches are a draw in summer, there are several
other excursions that can be made in order to savour the joys of the
French countryside and its history:
- the breath-taking night time son- et-lumiere spectacle at Le Puy du
Fou, and its day time historical theme park.
- head off north-east to Saumur/Chinon for a drive down the Loire
valley to chateaux such as Azay le Rideau and Villandry.
- what about a day boating on the tranquil waterways of the Marais
Poitevin (Green Venice) - a network of unending green waterways seen
through a haze of willow trees.
- within one hour is Poitiers, a very attractive town of cobbles
streets and narrow alleyways, and home of Futuroscope, a futuristic 3D
cinerama and evening laser show. Great for children and adults alike.
- there are several lakes in the area created by barrages, usually
with beaches, wind surfing, pedaloes and activty centres.
- La Rochelle is 1 hour away & is well worth a visit, especially for
seafood restaurants, pedestrianised shopping and generally
people-watching in this chic, historic port.
- Under one hour are the many golf courses of the Vendee, and
Pescalis, an international fishing complex is 15 minutes away. It is the
premier fishing and nature complex in Europe and is open all year with
250 acres of specialised lakes.
This is just a taster of the many holiday activities you could enjoy
here in the French countryside, away from the crowds nearer the coast.
And come to love it as we do!
